Sutton on Sea paddling pool update
Posted on 26 June 2025

We hoped to bring more positive news when we next provided an update on the repair works at the Maple Leaf pool but unfortunately, the contractor has not yet been able to resolve the identified leakage at the site.
Following the initial completion of the refurbishment works in late May the paddling pool unexpectedly began to lose water. The contractor investigated and identified an unforeseen settlement to the pool's circulation and drainage system where several concrete joints had failed.
This could not have been identified until the full filling of the pool had taken place, and since then repair works have been underway to find a resolution which, following several refilling tests, have not yet been successful.
Please rest assured that these works are not at additional cost to the council or taxpayer, and the focus is on getting it fixed and right for the long-term, rather than rushing to find the solution that allows us to reopen the quickest.
The contractor is continuing with their repair works, and the next test refilling of the pool will take place later this week. If this is successful, we hope to have some good news around reopening to bring you very soon.
We apologise for the understandable frustration and inconvenience the closure has caused, and we are working hard to get this popular facility available for residents and visitors to enjoy again.
This is an exciting summer for Sutton on Sea with fantastic events like Vintage on Sea this weekend and the opening of the new Seaview Colonnade and its pop-up café and community activities at the end of July, and we are determined to make sure that the paddling pool is part of this.
