Second Homes/Furnished Properties
From 1 April 2019 there is no reduction for these properties.
Prior to this date a 10% discount applied. Since 2013 local authorities are able to remove the discount on second homes and other dwellings that are unoccupied but furnished. On 6 March 2019, we decided to remove the 10% discount, increasing the Council Tax to 100% charge.
If your second home is a residential pitch occupied by a caravan or a mooring occupied by a boat you will qualify for a 50% discount.
Job Related Discount
If you have left your home in order to live in another property as a condition of your job, you may get a 50% discount. The property you have left must be furnished, the address you have moved to must be specified in your contract of employment and you must be registered there as the Council Tax payer.
If you qualify for a Council Tax discount you must tell us within 21 days if there is a change that might affect it. We can impose a £70 penalty if you do not tell us about a change. Keep us informed of changes on email@example.com or by calling 01507 601111 and select Council Tax.
